SuttonBeresCuller’s The Wunderkammer (2010) for the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport will transform the display case and it’s intersecting column into a cabinet of curiosities. The column itself will be transformed into a large highboy/curio cabinet that extends above the display case. The cabinet’s door will be partially opened with a slowly pulsing light spilling out. All of the components of the installation will be created with an aesthetic taken from the materials and technologies that have made Silicon Valley and the surrounding region what it is today. We will be upcycling objects that were integral in the valley’s transformation from orchards and farmland into the hub of the high tech industry. There will be allusions to the past history of the Valley as well as a creative vision of the future. The installation conveys an >imaginary natural history museum diorama commenting on the San Jose region.
The project will be installed May of 2010 through June of 2012 in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal B >of the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport.
