A beautiful and simple modern terrarium by Jeffrey James. Terrariums are fascinating because they give the impression of a slice of nature being captured behind glass. Like all terrariums, this woodland forest scenes is manufactured. It plays beautifully on all our ideas of nature. From the feathery fern to the single yellow maple leaf on the left and the pristine acorn on the right, it is an image of fertile nature. A constructed one.
Ryusuke Ito’s work questions to audiences what realty is and what is not, by making us face to the antinomy. He juxtapose the miniature set and its huge image projected on live onto the wall at once; they confuse audiences by blurring the lines between truth and fiction.
A sound installation, in which visitors can listen to various “soundscape” recorded in Yokohama by shining on a miniature model of the city with flashlights. The location of lights on the miniature are detected by a hacked infrared web-camera and a Max/MSP patch, then sounds recorded in >the corresponding area are played.
